100th anniversary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences
In connection with the 100th anniversary of IVA (Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences), the event "Experience, discover and explore - as an engineer" was organized with 600 participating 7th grade students.

Innovation will improve care for chronic pain

New ICP-OES will expand our capacity for elemental analysis
Quantification of elements contained in a material is of vital importance for the development of safe medical devices. From February 2017 the MiM lab has been upgraded with the possibility to do elemental analysis thanks to our new Avio 200 ICP-OES from PerkinElmer.

Patient with a large cranial tumor was successfully operated
A patient with a large cranial tumor was successfully operated by neurosurgeons at Uppsala University Hospital in Sweden. The majority of the patient’s cranium was substituted with a personalized implant from OssDsign. The implant material is the result of research carried out at Uppsala University and Karolinska University Hospital.

On May 4th, we participated at the National Conference on Cooperation for Innovation in Stockholm.

MiM at SciFest
We were at this year's popular science festival SciFest arranged yearly by Uppsala University to reach out and inform the society. Over 7000 people visited SciFest and our booth was full of curious visitors in all ages, who were mixing bone cements, 3D-printing bone, and discussing today's bone implants and future life long joints.

28,7 MSEK granted from SSF
Håkan Engqvist received a grant for 28,7 MSEK from the SSF for the synthesis and processing of active calcium phospate cements. This five years grant is part of the SSF's focus on framework grants in materials science. A total dividend of 600 MSEK was granted to materials scientists all over Sweden.
