Ken Welch, professor at the Department of Materials Science, has received funding from the innovation programs Swelife's and Medtech4Health's joint call "Collaboration project for better health" for a research project on chronic pain.https://uuinnovation.uu.se/aktuellt/?tarContentId=864058

The aim of the project is to improve the treatment of chronic pain by developing a sensor that can locate deep-seated tissue anomalies that occur in long-term muscular and skeletal pain.

Project manager Ken Welch says that the background to the project is clinical and physical observations made by DoloRadix CEO Mårten Prosell during 20 years of clinical work in the medical field. Today, there is a prototype of the sensor developed in Ken Welch's research group.

The project is a collaboration between academic research and industry. The project includes academic groups from the Department of Materials Science and the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at Uppsala University and the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute. On the industrial side, the companies DoloRadix and Progress Orthopedic Medicine participate.
