Meet the Customized Microfluidics team
Maria Tenje - Scientific Director

Prof. Maria Tenje has been Director of the Customized Microfluidics SciLifeLab UU local unit since 2017, having previously been Manager from 2016-17. She leads the research group EMBLA - Enabling Microtechnologies for Biomedical and Life science Applications within the Division of Biomedical Engineering at Uppsala University. Her main research interests lie in developing microsystems for applications within the life sciences with a special interest in research related to micro/nano fabrication and processing of new materials.

Laurent Barbe - Facility Manager and Contact Point
Laurent has a background in Applied Physics, with a PhD in Bioengineering/Biomechanics from the University of Paris, and postdocs in the field of tissue engineering, microfluidics and cell imaging.
Laurent is currently the manager of the Customized Microfluidics SciLifeLab UU local unit and researcher in Prof. Maria Tenje's EMBLA group. His expertise covers the available microfluidic technologies provided by the facility in relation with Life Science applications.

Milena De Albuquerque Moreira - Senior Research Engineer

Milena has been working with Process Technology since 2008. She was initially focused on Materials Science research, followed by the fabrication of micro and nano-devices for various applications (electro-acoustic devices, measurements of nanowires, etc).
In 2019 she joined the Myfab Uppsala (MSL) facility, a distributed national research infrastructure for clean room-based research and development in microtechnology, nanoscience and materials research. Here she focuses on microfluidics, with the design and fabrication of microfluidic devices comprising the majority of her work.

Susan Peacock - Administrator
Susan has a background in molecular electronics, and has previously managed a portfolio of research at the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. She joined Prof. Maria Tenje's EMBLA research group in 2017 as a project coordinator, and the SciLifeLab UU local unit in 2021.
Susan is responsible for many of the unit's administrative tasks, including its outreach program and website development.

Stefan Nygren - Director of Myfab Uppsala

Stefan Nygren has an MSc in Engineering Science from Uppsala University and a PhD in Solid State Electronics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). His background is in IC metallization and he spent 10 years with Ericsson Microelectronics, where he was responsible for process integration and process transfer in collaboration with Texas Instruments, SONY and foundries. Since 2002 he is the director of Myfab Uppsala (MSL).
