Light scattering of laser light from a textured surface

Our research is mainly conducted in two areas:

Chromogenic coatings for smart windows. This concerns materials and coatings whose optical properties can be varied by applying an applied electrical voltage (electrochromic), by irradiation with UV light (photochromic) and with temperature (thermochromic). Applications include energy efficient smart windows, whose transmission can be varied depending on solar irradiation, temperature and comfort requirements.

Optical materials for energy applications. The focus is on determining optical properties of different types of materials. We determine optical constants from transmittance and reflectance measurements for thin coatings and homogeneous materials. Pigmented materials often exhibit strong light scattering and in such cases we determine absorption and scattering coefficients.
